Christmas movies before Halloween?!?! I know, I get it; you might think it is too early.  But trust me, it’s not!  If you’ve been following Momlando for a while, you know that one thing we absolutely love is holiday movies- specifically Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas and Lifetime’s It’s a Wonderful Lifetime movie celebrations.

Each year we watch for our favorite stars, product placement, returning back to small town life, event planning miracles, tree decorating, cookie baking, and of course the near-kisses.  Of course the movies are a bit formulaic, but that is what makes them so fun.

For the past several years, we’ve watched the movies bracket style, crowning one supreme winner as our holiday favorite. Take a look at last year’s bracket to see our picks!  I like to use our old sheets to remember which ones are good to re-watch as they are played again this year.

This year, the celebration kicks off on October 23 with 78 movies on our list to watch and rate.  We decided to add the Netflix movies this year because it looks like they have a number of really good ones! In fact, over the last couple years the number of movies from Hallmark and Lifetime have gone through the roof. It’s pretty much a full-time job to watch them all.

With so many movies we decided to move away from our traditional bracket.  Instead, we are doing a simple Google spreadsheet to track and rate each movie.  We will be giving each movie a score based on the Christmas magic (intangibles), the acting, directing, story, and bonus (favorite city/actor/etc.).

Want to use our sheet to track your movies too?  Give each category a score from 1-5 and the total will automatically sum in Column A.

We’re kicking off October 23rd with hot cocoa and holiday cookies. 2020 demands finding joy where you can and the Countdown to Christmas always brings that in our house.
