Looking to walk on the wild side? There are so many places in Central Florida to get up close with animals. Whether your kid can’t live without ducks or they’re on the prowl for something a little bigger, we’ve got a list for you.
Note: This list does not include any animal encounters at Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, or SeaWorld. Those big guys have lots of animal fun ready for you. But if you’re looking for something a little more local or even a little more the cheesy kind of touristy these are for you.
Audubon Center for Birds of Prey

Truly a best kept secret in Central Florida! Located in Maitland, this urban environmental Audubon Center focuses on the rescue, medical treatment, rehabilitation and release of Florida’s raptors (that’s birds yall). Tours and educational opportunities abound for the whole family.

Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Garden

Nestled in a protected natural wetland, the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens has animals from around the world including, rhinos, giraffes, leopards, monkeys, exotic birds, an Insect Zoo, and much more. There’s also a splash pad for your kids to cool off and run around. At the front of the zoo are the Little Florida Coastline Railroad and a carousel, your kids will be begging to go for a ride. The park also has zip lines and other attractions for big kids and adults.

Gatorland

If you’re ready to see all the gators, all the critters, and have all the fun, then this place is for you. Gatorland is the self-proclaimed alligator capital of the world. You’ll have a blast watching shows, feeding the gators, and checking out all the exhibits. Gatorland is the ultimate in Florida kitsch. It’s a destination beloved by locals and tourists alike.
