Our holiday cards and family photos are a favorite tradition in our house. We love coming up with unique and creative ideas that are fun and capture the holiday spirit. With ten years under our belt and two beautiful kiddos to show off, we thought it was time to jump on the social media trend and show how it started vs. how it’s going

We decided to recreate a favorite holiday card photo from so many years ago with the kids. When we told the kids about it, it goes without saying they were more than eager to pour fake snow on their dad. I loved the idea but was hesitant. Eight years isn’t long enough to forget how much of a mess this photoshoot was last time. The thought of adding two little ones made me extra nervous. But then we learned about Snow in Seconds and were ready to take a chance. They’re the original fake snow and have been around for ten years! I was sure if anyone could make it fun and easy it was them.

It’s instant snow that grows 100 times its size in just seconds. What I was thrilled about was it had a heavier weight than the ones we’d tried before. So while it was light and easy to throw around, it didn’t keep rolling around all over the house. It stayed wherever it landed, making for easy cleanup. All we had to do was vacuum it up from the blanket. So much fun and almost no mess.

Let’s back up, how does Snow in Seconds work?  Just add water!  For each teaspoon of Snow in Seconds add 1/4 cup of water and the powder instantly erupts into mountains of fluffy white snow.  We found that a little bit goes a long way.  When the powder is mixed in small increments it is better able to reach its full expansion. Our little Florida babies were so excited!

Snow in Seconds is cold and feels just like real snow without the mess.  It will maintain the temperature of the water it is mixed with.  The colder the water – the cooler the snow.  It does not melt and can last several days.  It can even be re-used.  Just let it dry and store in an airtight container.  You can also create colored snow by adding a few drops of food coloring to your water before mixing.

Once we mixed up our batch we were ready to recreate our original photo. I wish I could tell you getting the kids posed and ready for the photo was anywhere near as easy as making the instant snow, but we all know that’s not true. The kids were so excited to pour snow on their dad that it was impossible at first to get them to hold a pose or freeze long enough to get a real shot. After about 50 blurry photos I gave up and let them get their sillies out for a bit. Then we re-scooped our snow and got one perfect holiday photo. What did we do after that? We took the snow outside for a big snow fight and had a blast. Next up, we’re opening our jumbo bag and filling up our kiddie pool for snow angels!

Snow in Seconds is non-toxic and safe for kids and animals. It is also safe to use outside without damaging plants or grass.
