As a mommy blogger you start to notice trends in the Facebook Groups on what moms are concerned about. One that never seems to go away is ‘Where should I take my child to get their ears pierced?” So recently when I stumbled across Drift Piercing Studios I wanted to learn more.

From the beginning what captivated me with the studio was their intention to create a gorgeous and comfortable space for a high quality experience. After speaking with Megan and Jake I am blown away by their thoughtfulness and dedication to ensuring a great experience for all their clients.

Tell me about your Studio:

Drift Piercing Studios was born as a way to provide both a safe and enjoyable piercing experience for everyone. We have evolved a lot over the past five years, but that original mission has always remained the same! We recently moved to the Ivanhoe Village into our first stand alone location and we put so much love into the build out of it. The new space is the perfect mix of all of our personalities which I think makes the space extra personal and special. I hope that energy and love radiate to everyone who may walk in our doors!

What makes you passionate about piercing?

There are so many reasons why some people choose to get pierced; some clients come in to get a piercing in order to commemorate an event, some to add a bit of bling for some self love, some to reclaim themselves, the reasons really are infinite. One thing that is uniform is that piercing is a personal experience. That is the core of what makes us passionate, we get to provide a personal service that people will love and remember fondly when looking in the mirror! With that idea in mind, our new space was built and designed to cater to a more one-on-one experience.

How can we prepare our kiddos for the piercing procedure?

We usually recommend the little one (and parents!) come in for a consultation a few days before the day of the actual piercing day. This gives the kiddos some time to explore the studio, meet the piercers, ask questions, and let them pick out the jewelry for the big day so they can get even more excited! We have found that the consultation beforehand can make the little ones more comfortable with the space and the people so it’s a familiar experience instead of an unknown one (which has the potential to make things more intimidating!)

What do you use to pierce ears?

Times are changing! The piercing guns in the mall and old fashioned ice plus sewing needle at home into an apple days are over. We pierce with needles exclusively, and utilize what is referenced as a “disposable” method of piercing. We could write an essay on the cons of piercing guns, but to put it short: they cause more trauma to the tissue (a.k.a actually hurts more) and they can not be autoclaved. This is a method of sterilizing, the gun would actually melt if one was put through the autoclave machine that we use! Our disposable method of piercing means every single thing we use for the piercing is properly disposed of after the procedure and never reused to guarantee a clean and safe procedure.

Do you need an appointment or can we drop by?

Currently we are working by appointment only! Luckily, we make appointments super duper easy to book. We have a book now button on our instagram profile, as well as a page to book through our website. We do recommend booking appointments at least a few days in advance as we tend to fill up pretty quick.

What if my kiddo changes their mind when we get there?

We are all about consent at Drift. Our age minimum for ear lobe piercings is four years old, but we will never perform a piercing on anyone at any age if they are not consenting and ready to go! The consultations beforehand tend to make this issue less common for us, but if it happens, we promise the little ones will still get a high five and we can rain check for whenever they feel ready again.

What do we need to do before we come for the appointment?

A common miscommunication we tend to run into pertains to Florida’s law concerning the piercing of minors. The health department requires that we have a notarized minor consent form before we can do any piercing on a minor, even ear lobes! We do have links to this form on our site if you would like to print it from home and get it all done before the appointment; or additionally we always have copies at the studio that you are more than welcome to grab in advance or during the consultation! Whichever parent or guardian gets the form notarized must be present with photo ID at the time of the piercing.

Drift Piercing Studios is open 7 days a week 12-8pm and is located at 621 Virginia Drive in Ivanhoe Village (Orlando). Visit their website to learn more!
