We’ve been annual pass holders a couple times for the Crayola Experience in the Florida Mall – or as our kids say, “The Crayon Fackory”.  I think it is a pretty cool thing that everyone should do once… my kids think everyone should do it every weekend.  How many times can you melt a crayon for drip art?  According to my kids, it’s a must-do every time.  But that is great – we don’t have the passes for me, it’s for them.

Ever since the pandemic hit and shut down the world, we have been keeping a list of things the kids want to do once things start opening back up.  Visiting the Crayola Experience has been at the top of their list and recently we have felt that it would be safe enough to venture out.

We decided to leave early and get there right when it opened, which paid off because it wasn’t very busy at all for the first hour.  They have a new check-in process where we got our temperatures checks and received our bags and tokens. They provided crayons in our bags for us to use rather than having community crayons out that might spread germs.  We also noticed plenty of hand sanitizer stations and signage for masks all around.

The first station that was changed, we noticed, was the Molding Madness area.  Vending machines full of molding dough (like playdough) spit out many colors of dough. We used some tokens on getting a couple different colors of molding dough and were given a toy tray to use while we played.  Someone was there to take the tray back and sanitize it when we were done.

Moving further into the experience, we found that the playground areas, Toddler Town and Color Playground, were both shut down.  This was a little sad because our daughter loves climbing up in the giant crayon and going down the slide.  But we understand that something like that should be closed off for now.

As we continued exploring the different stations, we didn’t experience anything else being shut down or restricted.  There were definitely more social distancing and hand sanitizing requirements, but the kids loved creating art and playing the rest of the morning. We stayed for about an hour and a half and had plenty of time to do everything the kids wanted to do.

The kids’ favorite things are dancing with the Rockin’ Paper, Silly Selfies projected up on a wall, You Design cars and fashions, and Scribble Scrubbies pets.  They are already ready to go back, and I think we will return soon knowing the Crayola Experience is doing all that they can to make it a safe environment.
