Tell us about Pretty Peacock Paperie:

I sell my illustrations and art on stationery. We have greeting cards, notepads, stickers and prints. Our products are funny, modern and empowering. We unite people through connection and empowerment.

What made you want to start the paper shop?

Well, I actually began doing wedding invitations many years ago. When I had my daughter 4 years ago, my pregnancy/delivery and recovery was riddled with complications. I was not able to design for quite a while as I healed. My complications were paired with postpartum depression. I was overwhelmed trying to find balance between being a new mom and figuring out how I could go back to custom designs. Long story short, I found my way back to my passion: Art. I was gifted an art class at Orlando Museum of Art for my first Mother’s Day. I walked out of that class determined to pivot my business.

I rolled out 80 designs in the next few weeks. My designs at the time were affirmations that I needed to hear. Empowering words like, “You Can.” “No Hood Like Motherhood.” and “You are a Bada**” were originally for meant me. After my first local market, I realized that these were affirmations that everyone needed to hear. I wasn’t alone after all. So, now women all over the world are my inspiration. We really are the heroines of the story. I want every woman to find their power. I found my power when I became a mother. My children are the reason why. As a work at home mom I have to work unconventional hours. I don’t mind much because I get to be “mommy” and I get to be Natalie the artist and boss.

How can people purchase from you? Online – where? In stores – where?

I have an order online pick up with in person location. However, I have put that on hold for now due to the pandemic. We are also in 75 stores across the nation. You can find more info on our website. Locally, we also have products regularly at Miscellaneous Market and Good Crowd Shop if you are around town.

How have you pivoted during the pandemic?

We have pivoted to online only. I have not done any local markets since February. I try to keep in touch with my customers mainly through social media and through my email list. We have pushed out more releases this year. I have found that more people are trying to connect this year via snail mail.

What are you looking forward to next with your business?

I’m looking forward to 2021. We have some really big licensing deals coming up in the first half of the year that will land us in major stores like World Market and hopefully Barnes and Noble. I also have a collaboration on a t-shirt design launching in February that I hope will unite people after the year that 2020 has been.

Which items make the best gifts?

No Hood Like Motherhood Card- This card is for my mamas. I use it as a new mother card to welcome my friends into motherhood. However, it can be used for any mother, especially mothers looking for community.

Get Sh*t Notepad – This notepad is jumbo and includes a full break down of your day. It is great for planning, tasks, gratitude, workouts/diet and if you are good you even get wine at the end of the day! (if that’s your thing) Our notepad is perfect for anyone wanting to get productive. I think having a place where you can see “all the things” in one spot is a great way to stay on track.

Stickers – our stickers are made from outdoor vinyl. This makes them waterproof. So, you can place them anywhere including on water jugs, computers and more. The applications are endless. We have 18 designs and plan to expand in 2021.

Does your fam help with the shop?

My kiddos are still pretty young (ages: almost 4 and 2.5 years) but when they do help, they help me sprinkle confetti over orders and seal packages with stickers. If you ever get an upside down sticker, or a TON of confetti, one of my babies probably helped!
