Bros with Hoes Plant Co (BWH Plant Co) has a cute sassy name and is run by two married couples. Best friends and new parents running a business sounds sitcom-worthy! Carlie & Jason Paluzzi, have a son who just turned one and Gail & Kyle Kroeplin, have a seven month old daughter. They became friends in college and during that time would often joke about how they should all start a business together. Now, a year and a half in, they say things are busy and crazy as ever but they’re loving every second!
Tell us about BWH Plant Co:
We are an online plant retailer. We specializes in rare and unique houseplants but we offer something for all plant lovers from novice to collector!
What was your inspiration for the business?
A long running dream (which we used to joke about) was starting a business together. We used to have weekly BBQs and just spitball tons of crazy ideas to come up with a fun business concept that would allow us to work together doing something we loved. One night we were really on a role and started talking about ways our backgrounds and interests could intersect. Combined we had experience in marketing, experiential events, logistics and agriculture and so the idea of a mobile plant store was born.
Where can people find you?
We have an online store and ship nationwide! For our locals, we recently retired our mobile trailer but have opened up a retail store in the Hourglass District. We share a spot with Freehand Goods, it’s was the perfect collaboration and entry into the brick and mortar world.
How have you pivoted during the pandemic?
The pandemic was a blessing and a curse. We had just launched our online store only a few months before the pandemic hit so we were lucky that we had already taken that step and had fined tuned our shipping process prior to the pandemic. What we didn’t expect was how the pandemic would create a craze for indoor gardening so demand for plants has skyrocketed.
What’s up next for BWH?
In the past year there’s been so much growth it feels wild to think about what will come next. Somewhere down the road we’d love to see BWH retail stores in other cities!
Can people find gifts for their holiday shopping list?
A plant is always a fun gift to give and receive, and since we ship nationwide we make it even easier to send some greenery to someone near or far. We offer plenty of easy care plants in store and online that are ideal for gifting. In a few weeks we will also be launching some pre-bundled kits that were created with gifting in mind and we’re so excited about them!
Does your family help with the shop?
We have a small but mighty team of three ladies who run the day to day in the store but our family is always popping in and out helping to restock throughout the week!
