This small biz is one of my absolute favorites- let’s get to know Rockhaus Metals. Kristina has exquisite taste and an eye for design that leads her to create the most effortlessly cool jewelry. Aside from a bustling jewelry business Kristina is also a twin mom to a set of adorable little gals. She’s got a lot on her plate and makes the juggle look stylish and easy. We’ve gotten to know her through our Moms Who Rock series (you can read more about her there!) and learn more about her biz below. Buy for a friend, buy for yourself, and you’ll find her pieces make their way into your daily rotation.
How do you get inspired to make new pieces?
I love to pull out a bunch of stones from my stash and sort through them to get a spark of inspiration. Most of my ideas for settings or designs come to me from the stones themselves.
What are your favorite stones?
My number one favorite is tourmaline. It comes in so many colors and I feel a lot of joy working with it. I also love turquoise, and a good flashy moonstone or labradorite.
I’d have to say that my favorite customs have been 14k gold wedding bands. It’s a deeply meaningful piece of jewelry, and to have someone put trust in me to create such a symbolic piece for them is an honor. I also LOVE working in gold, so any opportunity for a custom gold piece has been a dream.
Which of your items make the best gifts?
Rockhaus best sellers are definitely the Mini Arc earrings, with the Arcs and Infinity Ring following close behind. They’re all such lightweight pieces that make great everyday jewelry.
Either size of the Arc earrings are great for gift giving! I also feel like they’re a great gateway piece of Rockhaus jewelry haha! The climbers are also a good choice. Simple, but edgy.
What’s up next for your business?
I see a lot more 14k gold in the future with some finer pieces getting included in the collection. Also, more education for me to expand my fabrication and stone setting techniques.
How have you had to pivot during the pandemic?
For me, the pandemic meant a pivot away from the business and towards my children and family. It was difficult going from working at my bench for hours each day, to suddenly almost zero time. My five year old twins needed constant attention (understandably since their world was turned upside down), and one of my sweet daughters was having such severe separation anxiety to the point where I couldn’t even take a shower without her crying for me. So instead of letting the pressure of feeling like I was failing at my business overwhelm me, I finally just let it go. I fulfilled orders, but stopped designing and creating new pieces and took a hiatus from social media. I knew it would be a temporary moment in time and that I’d eventually get back to it. And thankfully, my husband stayed employed the entire time so that I was able to focus solely on the girls. Those months together were honestly such a gift.
Any words for your fans (Me! It’s me!)
A sincere thank you to anyone who has ever followed me on social media, liked a post and or bought jewelry from me. And thank you for sticking around when I went into hiding over the summer! It feels good to be creating again and reconnecting with my customers.
