Are you into secondhand shopping? There are great vintage, thrift, and consignment shops in Orlando.
I for one am a huge fan for numerous reasons. You can find great brands and items for a fraction of the cost as when they were new, you cut down on consumption and your carbon footprint, and it’s just a really fun treasure hunt. In secondhand shopping I’ve built an extremely unique wardrobe for a fraction of the cost if I bought things new.
Here’s something to think about…have you ever donated a bunch of barely worn clothes to Goodwill or some other thrift store? Yeah, so have a lot of us. Which means someone else barely worn junk is waiting for you as your new treasure. If you’re short on cash, need to update a lot of clothes after having kids changed your body, or if you just like clothes that look different and unique than mall clothing stores – second hand is for you.
First things first, let’s explain a few things. There’s a slight difference between each category, so the words should not be used interchangeably. We’ve got some details for you below. In secondhand shopping you must love the thrill of the hunt. You won’t be walking into a shop with items in every shape and color. Which leads me to my most important point – if you find something you love, buy it. You cannot be certain it will still be there when you return. Have fun and shop with abandon mama!
Consignment Store: The items in the store have been curated by the shop and are being sold on behalf of the original owner. The store will keep a portion of the sale price. Clothes are used but in fantastic condition and generally higher end brands. Price points may still be high but are deeply discounted from the original retail price.

Resale Shop: The items in the store have been purchased by the store at a low price and are now being resold. A great perk is that the owner of the store will be discerning on what they purchase so there will be a good selection to look through and the quality of the items high.

Vintage Store: Curated retail stores that sell items at least 20 years old that have a specific look and feel to the era they’re from. Vintage clothing prices can vary depending on the item. Vintage sellers are very knowledgeable on the pieces they carry and the aesthetics of the time period.

Thrift Store: These items have been donated and the sales will likely benefit a nonprofit organization. Prices on anything in the store will be extremely cheap. There are many thrift stores all over town, these are just our favorite two. That said, in any thrift shop you need to be prepared to search through a lot of junk to find good stuff.
