Do you remember those first few days at home with your new baby? You were terrified. They were terrified. It’s a blurry mess of tears and sleep. Whether you read all the books or not (I went the not route), there’s nothing that could prepare you for the realities of it. Within a few months things are a little easier, you understand a bit better how to get through the day to day. Your little human is a little bigger, they’re growing and so are you.
When you train for a marathon that first time you run a mile, you want to die. It’s so hard. But week after week you train and suddenly the first mile is a breeze. It’s the new ones you layer on that are challenging. And when you get your footing on those, they’re doable too. Note: Momlando has NEVER run a marathon. This is a 100% untested speculation-only metaphor.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat with my new mama friends or texted back and forth while they said, “This is so hard. I didn’t know it would be this hard.” And I tell them it will get easier. And that I know they can’t even picture it. But I tell them that it’ll happen before they know it. Not because any part of motherhood is actually easier, but because when you find a groove, you can handle all the hard things that come your way.
Your baby has to crawl before they can walk and you do too, mama. Motherhood is always hard, but as your baby grows into every new phase you grow too. So when it’s hard, give it time. You’ll grow into it.
