Lately I find myself chasing slow and easy rather than loud and chaotic. While that’s a great thing to search for in the every day, it can be hard to manage when it comes to children’s birthday parties. In effort to stay out of the chaos, we opted to invite just a few close friends over for an extra special arts & crafts princess party. Things worked out great, the girls had a blast, and the moms too!

Below I’m sharing how-to DIY your own tie-dye party. I hope you have a blast and enjoy the moment with this easy peasy birthday party plan. For your convenience, full shopping list is at the end of the post.

Party Planning

Prior to the party I did a little bit of decoration, ordered sandwich platters from our local Publix, and the cake too. Since it was a princess party I ordered enough crowns for all the princesses and the mamas (queens!) too. We encouraged all little the girls to wear princess dresses and had a few available as well. My daughter has this dress up box which is perfect for when friends come over.

Tie-Dye Prep

I setup our for the tie-dye in our dining room. I covered all dining room chairs with old sheets and towels to minimize the mess. I also had smocks/aprons available for guests.

I made a station for each guest with an individual pan to tie-dye in, white shirt, and princess crowns.

I set up multiple supply stations with rubber bands, gloves for moms and kids, and the tie dye. I followed the instructions from the kit for all of the dyes and got them ready about 15 minutes before the party started.

All of our party guests had a blast working together to create tie dye masterpieces. When they were done, we put each shirt in a plastic ziploc bag and gave instructions to let it sit for 8 hours or so and then to run through the washing machine.

After lunch I had a small station out for necklace and bracelet making with fun elastic cord and beads. Our guests had a good time stringing things together. This would also be a good idea as a simple take home craft if you’re planning to do goody bags.
