There’s no question you say some absurd things as a parent you didn’t realize would ever come out of your mouth.  I knew we’d need to reiterate the rules a lot. Don’t jump on the bed, brush your teeth, and say please and thank you. But that’s just the half of it.  Here are some of the weirdest rules we’ve had to make in our house:

No pancakes in the car.

I swear these kids just mush them up for the fun of it.  After one too many gigantic messes I had enough. And from that day forward there were no pancakes allowed in the car.

No princess dresses with glitter.

Our daughter loves dress up.  For her 3rd birthday we got her an Elsa dress.  And then we spent a week watching glitter spread through the house like a plague until they all fell off.  I now spend additional hours on amazon reading through the product descriptions and analyzing photos to make sure there’s no glitter before I purchase.

We don’t lick friends.

We have to go through and teach our kids how not to be little weirdos.  And so we’ve had to really teach our daughter you don’t just go up to people and lick them.  She’ll thank us later.

No unsupervised YouTube viewing.

Through the years I’ve gone down many a YouTube rabbit hole watching everything from hours of hair tutorials, college acapella tournaments, and small animals eating food.  And at first that was just as fun for our kiddo. We found a whole new world of people unwrapping toys, loading and unloading pez, and all sorts of things. But then it got weird.  There are a lot of videos out there displaying bad behavior and unsafe scenarios. And they’re all tagged with Mickey Mouse and Elsa, designed to lure kids in and get more views. I full on banned YouTube for a few months but have recently eased up.  We now use it for specific activities, like kids yoga, and I supervise everything the kids watch.

Don’t put your foot in your brother’s face.

I cannot believe how many times a week I have to say this.

Okay now, don’t leave me hanging.  Tell us the weirdest rule you have in your family.
