Brunch is like so totally 2016, and leaving your house for breakfast is so B.C. (before children).  The last thing you need after a stressful week is to sit at a restaurant watching carefree childless people give you the stink eye while your child throws eggs on the floor.  Why not make the hottest brunch spot in town your own house?

Have other friends with kids over and make a morning out of it…bring the brunch to you.  Your kids will enjoy having friends over, and occupy themselves with minimal supervision while you talk to other adults, and enjoy good food.  It’s a win all around.

How are you going to pull this off without too much work?  Here are some tips that Momlando and I have learned, as well as some winning recipes:

  • Coffee: Obviously the thought of brunch is a non-starter without coffee.  You need to find the best way to brew enough for all your guests, and not be too ashamed of your brewing skills for the coffee snob in the group (that would be me).  The night before, make a big batch of cold brew coffee, either sweet or bitter. Here is an easy recipe. We like to use a chocolate flavored coffee you can find at any grocery store.  Bonus points if you make a small investment in a whipped cream maker.  You can use the canister to make Nitro Cold Brew and really impress your friends.
  • Something Savory: If you ask me, all you need is some Bisquick biscuits and eggs.  But there are other just as easy breakfast dishes you can make. Keep it simple, don’t go all Top Chef. Step it up a notch and make some gravy to go with the biscuits. Or go all out with the quintessential brunch offering, eggs benedict.  Maybe it is such a staple because it was originally invented to cure a hangover or maybe because it is just so darn good.  Either way, you will want to think ahead because it can get a little tricky poaching a large number of eggs. Use these poaching tips when planning ahead.
  • Something Sweet:  It’s not just the kids who want a sweet treat for brunch.  Be sure to have a winning ‘treat’ breakfast that everyone likes. Yeah, there might be a lot of sugar involved, but if you time it right, the kids will crash right before nap time.  Here is a recipe for a Triple Berry French Toast Casserole that we love.

We’ve all been there, you get to the end of the week and things have been so crazy that you have no energy to go out or make elaborate plans.  That’s when this works best. Turning a regular old morning of lounging around and doing nothing into a brunch with friends is much easier than you think.  We hope this works out for you like it has for us!

  1. Love! My favorite is the cold brew – Besides the obvious statement that parents only drink cold coffee, no need to plan for a hot one. Ha Do you have a Cold Brew maker? Or do you just use a plain ol glass? (Now adding whipped cream maker to my Mother’s Day wish list, ha)
