We’ve got a list of easy self-care ideas for moms.  Is there a bigger buzz word right now than self-care?  I’m not sure.  But I do know that self-care is more than going to get a manicure or having a glass of wine after you put the kids to bed.  Don’t get me wrong – those things are delightful!  But, self-care is making yourself a priority mentally and physically.

How is your Valentine’s Day going?  Is it Pinterest perfect?  Did you search all the cute ideas to show the people around you how much you love them?  Maybe you brought some treats to the office.  Or thought of all the ways to spoil your partner.  Oh and the kids, I bet you went all out for them.  But what did you do for you?  This year, when you’re done taking care of everyone else, make a commitment to yourself.  Take a moment to commit to just one way you’re going to take care of YOU.

Easy Self-Care Ideas for Moms:

  • Say No:  There’s power in saying no to things that don’t serve you and will suck your energy.  Commit to making conscious choices about what you want and what you do not.  This article perfectly captures why there’s power in saying no and how to decide when to say no.
  • Make a morning routine:  I have found that I am a much happier mama if I get up before my kids and take time for myself.  Yes, it’s painfully early.  But when I’ve gotten a few moments to do things for me, I’m less frustrated an hour later when the morning devolves into chaos.  Here’s a list of ideas for your morning routine.
  • Take the nap:  If you have kids that still nap you need to nap too.  There is no bigger cliche then ‘sleep when the baby sleeps’ except for maybe the cliche of how much it is ignored.  And if you have more than one kid, forget it. I know you’re rarely napping.  Assign yourself at least one nap a week.
  • Take a walk: Walking is one of the best things we can do for ourselves.  If you’re not ready to commit to a fitness routine (whether you have no time or desire), you can take a walk.  Set a goal for 3 walks a week and work them into your schedule.  Why should you walk?
  • Pick a mantra:  Do you have a phrase that keeps you going?  Choose something you can say to yourself at a rough moment in the day that will give you a little dose of inspiration.  Choose a mantra that will lift you up or make your own personal mantra.
  • Drink more water: A lot of things can be solved by having a glass of water.  I bet you there are many days you forget if you had any at all.  Check out these hydration hacks. (For additional laughs and endless adoration to the Queen read this article on Martha Stewart’s hydration hacks.)
  • Add one thing back: The list of things you’ve stopped doing since having kids is probably longer than you care to admit.  What’s one thing you really miss?  How can you add it back to your life in a manageable way?
  • Answer honestly:  The next time a friend asks how you’re doing, tell the truth.  If you’re not fine, say it.  If you need to vent, do it.  Make sure you are choosing a trusted friend to unload on and be a good listener when they need to vent too!

What will you be adding to nourish your mind and body?  Let us know what self-care routine you’re choosing to put in place.  Need some more inspiration?  We’ve got it here.
