One thing that brings me back to feeling like my pre-motherhood self is reading. I love to read and would plow through books when I had a lot more leisure time. I’m determined to reclaim it. Also, I think leading by example is the best way to instill a love of reading in my kiddos. So I’m doing us all a favor! Here’s my list of what I hope to read this summer!

Educated by Tara Westover

This book is on everyone’s must-reads and favorites from 2018. I’m late to the party but still very excited to check it out. In this memoir by Tara Westover was 17 the first time she set foot in a classroom. Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, she prepared for the end of the world by stockpiling home-canned peaches and sleeping with her “head-for-the-hills bag”. Her father forbade hospitals, so Tara never saw a doctor or nurse. She taught herself enough mathematics and grammar to be admitted to Brigham Young University, where she studied history, learning for the first time about important world events like the Holocaust and the civil rights movement. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge. Only then would she wonder if she’d traveled too far, if there was still a way home.

Mrs. Everything  by Jennifer Weiner

Jennifer Weiner is my favorite author in the poorly titled ‘chick lit’ genre. Her new book is released on June 11th and I’m looking forward to diving into the new world she’s created. This novel spans from the 1950s to the present, where two spirited sisters struggle to find their own place in the world, navigating an ever-evolving American landscape.

Surprise Me by Sophie Kinsella

Not always my favorite, Sophie Kinsella does have a few books I’ve just adored. I really like her summary of what Surprise Me is all about it…so I’ll be checking it out!

From Sophie Kinsella: So what’s Surprise Me about? Well, Dan and Sylvie are a couple who decide to try and add some surprises into their marriage to keep things interesting. Instead, they find themselves with life-changing shocks…In no particular order, this book is about: marriage, love, sex, Fitbits, surprises, shocks, racy underwear, Battersea Park, parents, death, life, old friends, new friends, misunderstandings, fear and bravery. It made me laugh and then it made me cry and I hope it does the same for you. I can’t wait for you to read it!’

The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory

This sounds like the perfect summer read – a fake wedding date scenario that leads to actual romance? Count me in. And yes this sounds like one of my favorite rom coms also titled The Wedding Date and no I don’t care one bit.

Waisted by Randy Susan Meyers

Great reviews claim this book is “provocative, wildy entertaining, and compelling” so what more could I want? Its premise is about seven women enrolled in an extreme weight loss documentary who discover self-love and sisterhood as they enact a daring revenge against the exploitative filmmakers. Reading about reality television is more productive than watching it right?

Wolfpack by Abby Wombach

I have been waiting for this book to come out since I hung on every word of Abby’s insanely viral commencement speech to Barnard College graduates in NYC.  Abby Wambach is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and FIFA World Cup champion and in this book she’s unleashing a rallying cry to women. Her message is this: We have never been Little Red Riding Hood. We Are the Wolves. We must wander off the path and blaze a new one: together. I can’t wait to read it.
